It’s Staff Pick of the Week time again and we have gone back to the 80’s to find inspiration for this week’s chosen costume. The costume is inspired by the iconic Freddy Mercury who rose to fame when he was the frontman of the legendary rock band Queen. Read why Jenny chose this as the costume of the week:
“The staff pick for this week is the I Will Rock You jumpsuit and jacket. I chose this costume because a friend of mine recently acquired an incredible vinyl figure of Freddie Mercury in his iconic yellow buckled jacket, complete with posable arms for that brilliant power stance we all know and love. This costume would be great to wear out on a karaoke night, to help you channel your inner rockstar”.
It’s Monday again, which means that it is time for another Staff Pick of the Week. This week we have opted for a costume that is out of this world – The Spaceman Jumpsuit. Read below why Amy chose this as this week’s Staff Pick of the Week.
The Staff Pick of the week is Spaceman Jumpsuit. I picked this costume because recently I went to see The Martian. I thought it was a brilliant movie, but to be honest im not the biggest Matt Damon fan. It took a lot of persuading to get me to see a movie with him in it. I have to admit he done a pretty good job. Included in the costume is a jumpsuit with hood, gloves and bootcovers. Its amazing value for money. Any fan off space and NASA would be delighted with this creative costume.
Sizes available are medium and large in mens sizes.
We have chosen a well-loved character from the classic story of Alice in Wonderland for this week’s Staff Pick of the Week. Read on to see why Amy chose the female mad hatter costume for this week.
This week the costume I have picked is the female Mad Hatter Costume. It comes with the dress, jacket, thigh highs, glovelettes, hat and bowtie chocker. I chose this costume because the Mad Hatter is a great memory from my childhood. I remember first seeing the goofy mad hatter in Disneys Alice in Wonderland many moons ago. His scene was probably my favorite in the entire movie. Of course we cant forget the remake Tim Burton created that included Johnny Depp. I really liked his portrayal of The Mad Hatter. I think he really tapped into the essence madness with a touch of class. I might be biased praising Johnny Depp but cant we all agree he is just amazing?
I think any girl would love this costume its full of colour, fun and just a hint of madness!
Why not drop in and have a look for yourself ? Take a step into our Wonderland and see all our fun products.
It’s Monday again which means that it is time for this week’s Staff Pick of the Week. We have rolled it back to the 1920’s for this costume as this week’s selection is the “Champagne Flapper Dress”. Read below why Katie chose this costume as the Staff Pick of the Week.
“This week’s chosen costume is the champagne flapper dress which captures the heart and soul of the 1920s era. Since the 2013 movie adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby, directed by the avant garde and brilliant Baz Luhrman, the craze for 1920s themed parties, weddings etc.. has been all the rage. This costume would be the perfect outfit for any Gatsby themed event; hardly looking like a typical costume with its beautiful sequined detailing and authentic fringe that would pass for any traditional flapper. Accompanied by any one of our range of headpieces, cigarette holders, feather boas or dazzling pearls that are carried in store and always in full stock due to their immense popularity, pulling off a modern Daisy Buchanan would be effortless, as well as stunning. Now all you need is a Leo DiCaprio to be your Jay Gatsby”.
The Beatles Festival takes place in Dublin this weekend and it is bound to bring plenty of fun and 60’s style nostalgia to the city. If you and some friends are attending the festival and are planning on dressing up in 60’s style clothing then this is the perfect blog post for you. Read on to find out how to transform into John Lennon for the weekend.
Young John Lennon
To become a young John Lennon you will need a smart suit, preferably with a black pin striped suit like the one above. Complete the suit with a simple and skinny black tie. Make sure the suit and tie is well fitted and not too baggy so it will fit in with the classic 60’s fashion trends. Dressy black shoes will then complete the clothing. You will also need to be clean shaven while a proper 60’s style male brown wig will really complete the look. We have the best range of wigs in Dublin so call into Fun Place to find the perfect wig.
Older John Lennon
John Lennon became more unique and edgy with his style once the Beatles were well established and when he was a solo artist. The Imagine singer grew a beard, began to wear long and baggy clothes, grew his hair long and wore an iconic pair of glasses. To become the John Lennon from this era you will need white trousers, long white suit jacket, white polo-neck or shirt, brown belt and white shoes. To really complete this look you will need the iconic John Lennon glasses and a long brown messy wig and beard. Here at Fun Place Dublin we have the best range of accessories such as wigs and glasses so we are your number one option in the capital.
1970’s John Lennon
Lennon changed his look again in the 1970’s as he got rid of the beard and shortened his hair but he kept the iconic glasses. The singer’s style became a lot more casual as he was often spotted in denim jackets or army style jackets and jeans. To achieve this look you will need flared jeans, black/brown shoes, denim jacket with a t-shirt underneath. You will then need a 70’s style male brown short wig and the iconic John Lennon glasses which can all be purchases at Fun Place.

Whether you are putting together a costume for yourself or for your child, face paints can bring the entire look together. Although, most people aren’t sure how to go about using face paints and wouldn’t know where to start. Don’t worry this blog post will run through some basic steps on how to create certain looks using face paints. Just take your time and follow the steps and you can become a face paint pro this Halloween.
Dracula is a popular one in Ireland this Halloween thanks to the Bram Stoker festival in Dublin and Hotel Transylvania 2 has just hit the cinemas. The key to looking like a credible vampire is to look as pale as possible and less is more with this look.
- Using a damp sponge, cover the whole face with a base coat of Light Grey.
- Mix a darker grey by adding a little Black to the Light Grey and sponge on the dark patches around and above the eyes, on the side of the nose and on the cheeks and chin.
- Add the detailing with a brush. First using White paint, then using Black paint, draw thin lines from the corner of the eyes, on the upper cheeks under the eyes and on the lower cheeks from the corner of the nose.
- With White paint, add fangs at each corner of the mouth, and outline with Black.
- Using Black, draw on exaggerated eyebrows on the forehead.
- Using Red paint, draw a thin line under each eye, paint the bottom lip and add drips of blood from the fangs.
Witches are a classic Halloween choice and kids love to become witches thanks to popular movies like Harry Potter and Hocus Pocus. It is possible to become a witch without using face paints as most young girls will want to look like Hermione Granger but if you want to go for a spooky Wizard of Oz Wicked Witch of the West look then you have to use plenty of green face paints.
- Using a damp sponge, apply a layer of Dark Green paint all over the face as a base, leaving the area around the eyes.
- Using a brush and Dark Grey paint, fill in the upper eyebrow areas, adding a line of dots over each brow.
- Add 2 dots on each upper cheek area.
- Draw a large dot in the centre of the right cheek, this will be the body of the spider.
- Using Black paint, draw a thick line over each eyebrow adding long lashes rising up between the grey dots.
- Add a line under each eye and crease lines at the outer corners.
- On the left cheek, draw a cobweb using fine lines.
- On the right cheek, complete the spider by outlining the grey dot and adding 3 legs on each side.
- Paint the lips and add a dot on the end of the nose, just off-centre.
Zombies are becoming increasingly popular thanks to hit TV show The Walking Dead and this means that there will be plenty of zombies walking around this Halloween. The key to looking like a credible zombie is to walk very slowly, wear raggedy clothes and your face paint must make your face look like it’s decaying. It’s really a look that can only be pulled off at Halloween.
- Sponge lime green on face leaving a balloon shape area on one side of mouth for teeth.
- With sponge dab black on eyes blending out & dragging down on cheek area.
- Sponge balloon shape by mouth with black , as well as the temples , under the cheekbones & under the chin.
- At top of nostrils create teardrop shape by pressing brush on top of nostril by cheek & pull towards tip of nose to make nostril look bigger.
- With a brush dab & drag red to create cuts & blood along forehead & down nose.
- Add blood around the inside of the mouth balloon shape to look like red gums & with loaded brush dab red dripping out of mouth & down neck.
- With a brush make dabs of white for teeth & paint some Xs over cuts to look like stitches.
- Using black again on a fine brush outline white stitches & draw a line around ballooned mouth to define it.
If you have mastered all of these face paints and are feeling like a pro, why not challenge yourself to try out this Skeleton Face Paint tutorial.
This week’s Staff Pick of the Week is the Michael Myers costume. It’s less than two weeks until Halloween so what better costume to pick than one of a crazed serial killer. It has everything you need in a Halloween costume this year! Check out below why Amy picked this costume as this week’s staff pick of the week.
“The pick of the week has been chosen as Michael Myers from Halloween. I cant think of a better costume to pick this close to his favorite day! For me growing up it was a ritual done every year to watch the Halloween movies on Marathon close to Halloween. He is a warped serial killer and super creepy, you cant help but get a pang of horror when the music played and he came on the tv. Am I the only person who shouts at the people on the screen to run away from him and not into attics or basements? The costume itself does him great justice. Included is his mask, knife and his famous boilersuit. Sizes include medium and large. We also sell his knife and mask on their own. The mask itself is enough to scare even the hardiest of men! This movie has sewn itself into history as one of the creepiest, goriest and frankly one of the greatest movies of our time. It would be a sin to not have a few Michael Myers walking around this Halloween. You better be quick tho, he is proving to be popular in the shop and we wont have many left the closer to Halloween we get!”
Check out the trailer below of the original Halloween movie from 1978.
